Firefighters say it is possible that a fire that gutted a home owned by Polaroid Chairman and philanthropist Robert Sager started in the fireplace. Sager’s two adult children and a house guest escaped but Sager was trapped on the second floor until the property manager arrived with a ladder to rescue him.
The residence was the only house on Long island which is in the middle of Bow Lake in Stafford, New Hampshire. Fire trucks could not cross the ice due to their weight so crews used six-wheel John Deere Gators to transport a portable pump with a water tank to the island. The custom-built house with glass walls was a total loss.
